Garden Flags

I picked a poor background to photograph these - these are two "garden flags" for the chamber auction in early November.  

A fun evening of making baby bibs!

The baby (grandson number 2) is just starting cereals, so mommy wants a few bibs and can't find the ones from older brother.   "Not many, just 6-10" she said. Last night I had a wonderful time sewing up these five!  

I just love these fabric.  So bright and cheerful.  I took two separate fat quarter bundles -one of flannel material for the backs of the bibs, and one of cotton quilting fabric for the fronts of these bibs. Not of related fabric lines, I thought they worked together very nicely.  Still plenty of fabric left for other small projects.  Tonight I'll pick a couple to make what the daughter called a "suck pad" -it wraps around the carrier straps that baby's like to chew/suck on while being "worn" by mommy ( just google "baby wearing" - it's such a big deal among young parents, there's even a non-profit organization dedicated to it-I had no idea.) 

I had a Single fat quarter of the Halloween fabric and used another of the flannel pieces for the back of it.  I just love Halloween - and they'll get nearly two months of use out of it before Halloween passes.

And I saw this really cute bandana/recycled blue jean material bib online.  I did it slightly different - I like mine better.  But I don't think we'll get the full effect until a washing or two when the fabric frays a bit.

Not too bad for a first attempt. I modified a pattern -typical me- wanted to cut less and sew fewer seams - I made the lining one piece the same size as the outer fabric -the patterns called for three pieces.  Of course when it came to sewing in some elastic pieces I understood why they had those pieces and seams - yes, I did look over all instructions before starting, but I still thought I knew better and could figure it out.  Not a real big deal, just a little less neat on the inside.  I love it, even so.

Memory bear #1

This is made from three of my grandson's sleepers that he long ago grew out of.  I have a second started, for my second grandson.  I've decided this is a new family tradition!  I hope I have two or three more to make in my future!  (The weird blue smudges on the feet is my attempt to remove identifying info in the photo - his name is on the left foot and his DOB on the right).

Baby things.....

We have a new grand baby. Being a grandma is the greatest. 

My daughter wanted a diaper bag a little smaller than the duffel size she carried around with the first.  She loves the chevron fabrics.

I got the pattern for this pretty car seat cover from a lady on Etsy.  It went together quickly, her instructions very easy to follow:

I have a co-woker who is about to have her first grandchild. They are having a baby shower this coming weekend.  The parents are not announcing the gender so far which makes it a little harder to figure out what clothes to get. The shower theme is children's books so she wanted onesies that went along with that.  Her assistant told her about the onesies I had made for her when her son was born.  I was more than happy to help. Can you name all five books?

And I added these two bibs. These are so easy and fun to make.

Catch up!!

Wow - I just realized it has been September since I last posted anything.  It got me to thinking - what have I been doing during that time.   So, I combed through my phone's photos and found a number of items I completed but didn't post - the first couple where before September.

Created a cover to protect my coffee table from the munchins when they come over.

Participated in the 2014 Row By Row Experience (http://www.rowbyrowexperience.com/) - this is a "UFO" - all sandwiched together, but still waiting for the quilting to be done.

And, yes, I visited each shop personally - All of them great shops!  Jackman's in St. Louis is wonderful  - big and full of more than just quilting fabric (though there is a ton of that). Stitch Chicks is a wonderful little shop in Franklin, CT - just north of Norwich.  The ladies are super friendly and the quilt fabric selection is great!

Halloween Mug Rugs, just for the fun of it - hubby took them to the ladies in his office.

 

And, below, three onesies I embellished for a neighbor's new born!  You can tell the time of year by that third one!

I completed another of these plus a matching burp cloth for another friend, but sadly didn't take a picture of it.

And.........

... for the annual Chamber Auction - Tote Bag, and two wine bags (wine included).  (Also made and donated three burlap garden flags I didn't get pictures of either apparently - but hubby says he has seen them around town.  Maybe I'll sneak into someone's yard and take a shot - - picture that is.)

 

I am finishing up a couple of baby quilts I hope to have posted in a few days.  Seems there should be more.
